A Fortune 100 corporation had consolidated several complex bonus programs into a single pay for performance system. Once in effect, the new bonus program would impact thousands of employees worldwide, with some getting more and some getting less at year-end.
The steering committee that had designed the new bonus program knew that leaders would be key in delivering messages about the changes to their staff in a positive, motivating way. However, members of the committee weren’t aligned around how to prepare leaders to have effective and difficult conversations. Monaco Lange was brought on to design and facilitate a workshop that would align steering committee members around a communications plan.
BUILDING ALIGNMENT AND A PLAN FOR ACTION.
Through a series of carefully designed exercises, Monaco Lange guided the steering committee toward a clear plan of action in one day. First, the committee created employee profiles to understand who would be most affected by the bonus changes. Next, they outlined leaders’ strengths and weaknesses in delivering tough compensation messages and identified tools, such as panel discussions, virtual role playing, and leadership forums, to train leaders to have effective conversations. Once they agreed on how the training should be delivered, the committee designed a timeline for rolling out communications.
Leaders aligned around a single action plan for communications
Specific tactics that were quickly and effectively executed
Overwhelmingly positive feedback from leaders about the training and communications
Successful roll out of leader training program
